Modified Starch Production Line
1. Product Description
Native starch is a natural biological product, which is extracted and refined from plants like potato, tapioca/cassava, corn or wheat. Those native starches have already different properties which qualify them for different applications. The native starch is usually not used in native form. For example, starch is not soluble in water and therefore requires a special cooking. Or in a certain food application it requires a special taste or texture, which for special agents and ingredients are added and the mixture is heated and stirred. Based on these starches are used in various applications from industrial use (like glues, textile sizing agent) or in food for glucose/fructose as sweetener or food ingredients (like for noodles or soups).
2. Features
1.Raw starch blending and washing
Raw starch is originally purchased in bags (25-50 kg) or so-called large bags (1 ton) and stored in processing plants. First, dry starch was mixed with water to make a starch slurry with a concentration of 20Be (35% dry base). Refined starch milk can also be used directly from the original starch washing unit.
2.Reaction
The refined starch milk is pumped into a mixing/heating/reaction tank. Special ingredients (such as sugar-producing enzymes), preparations (such as citric acid, vinegar (acetic acid)) and salts (such as sodium chloride) are added to the tank. These additives are stored in an aqueous solution and pumped into the mixing tank. Only one formula corresponds to the production of one product. The mixture is thoroughly stirred and heated indirectly by hot water. This process must follow a certain time and temperature curve (25-50°C). After the mixture is neutralized and cooled, it is pumped into a buffer tank.
3.Refining
The starch milk in the buffer tank is pumped through a sieve to remove particulate impurities. The salt, unreacted product or by-product is cleaned out through a multistage cyclone station. A little starch contained in the effluent precipitates out in the sewage treatment tank.
4.Dehydration and drying
At this point the product is very close to the final product, only to use the scraper centrifuge for dehydration treatment. During starch dehydration, the filtrate is discharged into the filtrate tank. The filtrate contains trace amounts of starch and therefore enters the primary recovery cyclone. The starch is drained back into the dehydration buffer tank. The spilled liquid is sent back to the washing unit to be used as cleaning water.
